SAP - Evaluations

The Substance Abuse Professional

A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a uniquely qualified counselor that is approved to evaluate employees experiencing fall out from a recent violation of workplace drug and alcohol policies, which can include Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol program regulations. The SAP is called upon to make recommendations for education, treatment, follow up testing and aftercare, which is decided on a case-by-case basis.

These specialists represent the major decision point (and in some cases the only decision point) an employer may have in choosing whether or not to place an employee behind the steering wheel of a school bus, in the cockpit of a plane, at the helm of an oil tanker, at the throttle of a train, in the engineer compartment of a subway car, or at the emergency control valves of a natural gas pipeline.

SAP’s do not serve as advocate for neither the employer nor the employee. Their function is to protect the public interest in safety by professionally evaluating the employee and recommending the most appropriate and effective mode of intervention.

Professional Counseling and Biofeedback Center offers SAP evaluations by a certified Substance Abuse Professional. If you, or your employee, have been removed from their normal duties as a result of a violation of DOT or Non-DOT regulations, we can assist in the assessment and referral process required to restore an employee according to public safety standards.
